My Top 5 Supplements

So often I am asked, “What kind of supplements do you recommend?“. The truth is, I have used MANY different things over the last couple years, some just to try, and others have lasted the test of time and become my “must have” supplements.

This video will tell you more

Listen, I am not a certified anything, I am simply sharing the things I personally have used and continue to use for my own fitness journey! I am a strong advocate for healthy clean eating over supplements, but let’s face it, when you are destroying your body with things like the P90X Workout, Insanity Workout, Insanity Asylum, etc; You really need to give your body to tools necessary to preform optimally and repair efficiently.

This is where supplements enter the equation. Below you will find my Top 5 must have list which I will have on hand 99-100% of the time! I feel these are so important that I decided to give this list to answer those who ask me what I use and recommend.

#1 | Shakeology

The funny thing about Shakeology is that it came out after I had already finished my first round of the P90X workout. When I first saw it I was very skeptical and didn’t give it much thought. All I figured was, “oh, it’s one of those over-priced meal replacements”. I didn’t even give it a chance until the middle of December, 2009! That’s when I went “cold turkey” and stopped drinking my daily 4-6 cups of coffee to give Shakeology a true testimonial to this unique product.

To keep this short I’ll just say that since then, I have been hooked! I have been using it just about daily for almost a year and a half now! Personally, Chocolate is the way to go! You won’t catch me without my Shakeology these days. I’ll leave you with this, most people are skeptical about price which I understand, I was too. However, you get what you pay for and anyone I know who has tried Shakeology for 30-days does not turn back because of the results they get and the way they feel. Hands down, it’s the best! #2 | Pre-Workout

Are pre-workouts absolutely necessary? No, I don’t think so. Do they help get your ass moving and push you through your heavy lifting days? You bet your sweet potatoes! Listen, I don’t use a pre-workout every single day, in fact I do not recommend it. If you do, I would recommend that you take a week or two off every month of consistent use. These things are potent and will give you a body tingling push you need if you are working out early.

I am personally using Cellulor’s C4 after trying a handful of other pre-workouts. Scivation also makes a great pre-workout called “Quake” though I heard they changed the formula since I tried it last, so i’m not sure now. At this point I have settled for C4 for 3 main factors: 1 – I feel it work effectively; 2 – It mixes well and doesn’t chunk; 3 – It tastes awesome! I have Orange right now and I love it. My good buddy Charles Leslie turned me onto the Cellulor stuff so if you have questions or want to order some to try it, contact Charles on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/Betterlife90

#3 | P90X Recovery Formula

So it’s funny with this one because currently I am doing the Insanity Asylum workouts while recovering with the P90X Recovery Formula lol. Don’t let the name fool you, this drink is formulated for ANY hard core fitness that drains your muscles and liver or glycogen stores which happens after you eat up all those sugars in your blood. Or something like that =)

So many times people ask me if there is an “alternative”. I used to try and answer that but the thing is, I use the real deal. So now my answer is no, there is no equal alternative in my mind. Sure, someone else might have their own opinion and that’s cool, this is my opinion. After-all, you asked!

Side note: Don’t drink this stuff just because you took a 2 mile walk. You need to EARN your Recovery Drink and that only happens with a focused and intense workout session lasting longer than 30 minutes that leaves you muscles drained and shaky. This stuff is made for that “hour of opportunity” which happens directly after you finish an intense workout when your body is primed and asking for replenishment to repair and recover. Learn more about and/or order the P90X Recovery Formula.

#4 | P90X Peak Health Formula

The more and more I learn about nutrition, conventional food processing, and mass agriculture the more I accept the truth that we need to supplement our nutrition with a multi-vitamin. Of course, if you eat nothing but local farm grown organic pesticide and growth hormone free vegetables, fruits, and meats then you are doing just fine. But let’s face it, who does that?

I try my best to combine more organic stuff than conventionally farmed food but it’s just not realistic in our modern world. So I use this formula to supplements the gaps left in my food. Listen, the foods you eat are NOT what they used to be. Even those shiny looking “fresh” fruits and veggies you find at your local grocery store DO NOT contain the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that they once used to.

If you are breaking down your body with hard-core fitness like P90X, Insanity, Insanity Asylum, or even Cross-Fit, lifting at the gym, swimming, etc; your body can benefit greatly from supplementing with the P90X Peak Health Formula. Learn more and/or try the P90X Peak Health Formula today.

#5 | Power Crunch Bars

These things a the absolute BEST #1 meal bar I have EVER had, hands down. I actually just discovered these bad boys after watching some other fitness people I follow share what they use. I’ve actually been following Mark Sisson’s Primal Blue Print way of eating which is, in my mind, the most sensible and intelligent approach at daily nutrition (again, in my own opinion – yours may be different).

These things taste like those vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate flavored wafer cookies but they are a million times better! They are much lower in carbs than your standard meal bar and yet they contain a great source of isolated proteins and health fats. All in line with the Primal Blue Print (or at least as close as we can get that I have found). You will have to stop yourself from wanting to eat more than 1 a day lol.

I use these things occasionally but they are not something I always have on hand. These are more in those circumstances when I don’t have time to eat a larger meal, when i’m on the go, or when I need to get some calories in my belly an hour or two before a balanced meal. I’m one of those high energy hard-gainer types so I constantly need calories to even maintain what muscle I have worked so hard to gain. I use these things as snacks, not as meals. I don’t really have a source to share for these but just Google it!

Questions?

If you have any questions about this Top 5 list feel free to Contact Me and I’ll do my best to answer your questions or send you in the right direction. But please don’t email asking for alternatives to this list, this is what I use, this is what I know, and these are the things that are tried and true in my fitness/health life style. In my mind there are no alternatives.
