Right In The Path Of The 2012 Annular Solar Eclipse

There is nothing more mystifying than our universe! There has never been another creation that can make you feel so small, so insignificant, and yet all powerful at the same time.  When I gaze up at the stars I can’t help but feel like a small puzzle piece in a big picture.

I just discovered yesterday (April 27th) that I will be nearly direct in the path to witness one of the most incredible visuals of our planet!

Annular refers to this particular kind of solar eclipse. This is the type of eclipse that would make ancient civilizations question their acts and give celebration to their gods. Being an annular eclipse that means the moons circumference will fill in the sun except for an outer ring. It’s this kind of visual that Nasa recreates to view solar flares since the moon blocks out all but the outside edges. It will appear as though it’s a golden ring in the sky.

I cannot express how excited I am that I will be able to witness this event first hand. It just so happens that I planned my move from FL (where it will be missed entirely) to AZ at the exact timing this eclipse takes place. The thing that really blows my mind is that it won’t even be visible from AZ. But that’s OK because I won’t be there yet!

It just so happens that on the 20th I plan on being in Carlsbad New Mexico checking out the Carlsbad Caverns that morning. So not only will I see the most impressive cavern system known in the U.S. but later that afternoon I will witness a once every 18 year annular solar eclipse. Safe to say that the 20th of May will be a transformational day!

Eclipse Details…

Sunday May 20th, 2012
5:14PM – Start of eclipse
6:30PM – Maximum Eclipse
(lasting 4min 40sec)
7:36PM – End of eclipse

This website is where I discovered the information and shows the direct path if you’re curious http://www.pyramideclipse.com/eclipse/eclipsepath/ (I won’t be attending the party on the website but just viewing from New Mexico) and of course Google.com will give you all the details for those that need the Nitty Gritty facts.

I’ll be making sure I am in Albuquerque New Mexico during this event! I suggest if you happen to be in range or directly in the path you best witness this! Of course use all the precautionary steps and don’t stare at it with your naked eye – Even blotted out the sun is powerful enough to damage your eye’s.

I already knew 2012 was going to be an incredible year of experiences but I had no idea my planning put me exactly in place to view one of the most incredible universal spectacles that happens only once every 18 years! I’ll be 36 the next time this happens!

What about you? Are you going to miss this or are you going to do what it takes to witness it first hand? Let me know what your thoughts are in the comments!
